The program was moved to Minnetonka Minnesota, a western suburb of Minneapolis, in 1977. Between 1977 and 1990, the program grew and diversified. Nexus added an adolescent program and began specializing in treating sexual offenders. In those early years, Nexus functioned as a Therapeutic Community Treatment Program. This type of treatment is very values-driven and relied on the actual group of individuals being treated, called a treatment culture, to take a great deal of responsibility for their treatment and support others in their treatment. Nexus employs both of these tools from our early history—values and treatment culture—and integrates them into the treatment programs offered today.
