Teaching Assistant

STATUS: Full-time

JOB DESCRIPTION: Seeking a self-motivated individual to provide support to the faculty of New Dominion School. On-site education at Gerard Academy, for children in grades 2-12 with emotional, behavioral, and/or psychiatric problems, is provided by New Dominion School. The school also provides an educational experience for those students from surrounding communities who are not successful in their current school districts. Responsibilities will include providing educational assistance to clients/students in the areas of instruction, preparation of classroom materials, records management, client/student supervision and mentorship and ensuring student resident safety.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a high school diploma or GED and two years minimum post-high school education or degree. In addition, must meet all criteria for an approved Paraprofessional Certification in the State of Minnesota and must be at least 21 years of age. Must remain current on all required training and certifications. Special Education experience helpful. Requires the ability to effectively carry out lesson plans during teacher short-term absences and the ability to effectively provide educational assistance to the students on assigned subject materials, projects, and assignments. Must possess strong organization and communication skills and have the ability to multi-task and work independently. Requires the ability to assist in physical interventions and restraints of student residents, lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds assisted, stand and walk for extended periods of time (2-4 hours), and twist, bend, and stretch in a manner conducive to the execution of daily activities within a residential school setting.
