Behavior Specialist

STATUS: Full-time

JOB DESCRIPTION: Seeking a self-motivated individual to provide therapeutic crisis intervention services for students, and provide support to the faculty, at Grand Prairie School located on the campus of Onarga Academy. The school is a private year-round school operated in conjunction with a residential treatment facility serving children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral disorders. Responsibilities include supervising student behaviors during daily academic routines to ensure the safety of students and staff; collaborating with the interdisciplinary team regarding student behavior goals, policies and procedures surrounding student behavior, and student progress and intervention activities; and coordinating and implementing student activities and events that are part of the regular school day program, as well as extracurricular activities.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree required and a minimum of two (2) years experience in a school, day treatment or residential treatment setting with demonstrated emphasis on behavior intervention responsibilities is required. Must obtain and maintain certification in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) techniques. Requires the ability to assist in physical interventions and restraints of student residents, lift up to 50 lbs unassisted, stand and walk for extended periods of time (2-4 hours), and the ability to twist, bend and stretch in a manner conducive to execution of daily activities within a school. Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills for generation of required documentation and reporting, and to be able to interface effectively with student, family, staff and external contacts. Due to licensing requirements, the incumbent must pass a criminal background check, driver's license check and employment physical.
