In December Gerard Treatment Programs-Mason City Campus transitioned from a Nexus treatment program to become part of Four Oaks, an Iowa-based nonprofit that, like Nexus, provides residential treatment for youth.
The Austin campus remained part of Nexus, and its name has changed from Gerard Treatment Programs to Gerard Academy.
Gerard has been successfully treating children with emotional and behavioral
problems for more than 30 years. Seven years ago Nexus and Gerard joined
together to build upon each other's strengths: Nexus in treating sexually
reactive and abusive youth and Gerard in providing high-quality psychiatric
and mental health programs. Together Nexus and Gerard have done just that-built
and grown-but the state of Iowa made changes that affected the nonprofit
industry, including programming at the Mason City campus.
"The move to Four Oaks reflected a necessary and right thing to do," said CEO Jim D'Angelo.
"Transferring these programs was truly in the best interest of the Mason City campus-both for staff and residents," said D'Angelo. "Four Oaks is an outstanding organization, and this transition has given the Mason City campus an opportunity to move forward in the state of Iowa."
