On-Site School
On-site, year-round educational services are provided through New Dominion School for all residents of Gerard Academy.
Faculty
Classes at Gerard Academy are taught by Minnesota licensed teachers and special education teachers who have training in behavior management, creating a therapeutic culture that promotes intellectual development, builds relationship skills, and encourages emotional growth in students.
Licensing
The New Dominion School at Gerard Academy is part of the Minnesota public school system and is licensed by the State of Minnesota. It is accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation. Administrative oversight for classroom instruction is provided through the Austin Public Schools and is structured to help students transition back to their community schools after treatment.
Curriculum
Our highly structured, 12-month schedule allows students to enter school during any month of the year. Classes are offered in general education for both primary and secondary levels, and include English, literature, math, science, social studies, social skills, computer, health, and physical education. Students also receive instruction in study skills, drug and alcohol prevention, and sexuality, as appropriate for age and grade. Lunch is provided as part of the school day.
Classroom Size
The New Dominion on-site school maintains small classroom sizes to optimize teacher-to-student ratios.
Community Involvement
At Nexus, we believe that education is more than just academics, so we provide students with work and social opportunities, field trips, and community involvement activities during their treatment stay at Gerard Academy.
