On-Site School

On-site, year-round educational services are provided for all residents of Indian Oaks Academy.

Faculty

Classes at Indian Oaks Academy are taught by Illinois licensed teachers and special education teachers who have training in behavior management, creating a therapeutic culture that promotes intellectual development, builds relationship skills, and encourages emotional growth in students.

Licensing

The Safe Harbor School at Indian Oaks Academy is licensed by the State of Illinois and is accredited by the Office of the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA-CASI). Classroom instruction is structured to help students transition back to their community schools after treatment.

Curriculum

The Safe Harbor School at Indian Oaks Academy enrolls both residential and day treatment youth in classes. Our highly structured, 12-month schedule allows students to enter school during any month of the year. Classes are offered in general education for both primary and secondary levels, and include English, literature, math, science, social studies, social skills, computer, health, and physical education. Students also receive instruction in study skills, drug and alcohol prevention, and sexuality, as appropriate for age and grade. Lunch is provided as part of the school day.

The Safe Harbor School at Indian Oaks Academy maintains small classroom sizes to optimize teacher-to-student ratios.

Community Involvement

At Nexus, we believe that education is more than just academics, so we provide students with work and social opportunities, field trips, and community involvement activities during their treatment stay at Indian Oaks Academy.
