MLA treatment offers a holistic approach, identifying and targeting all the causal factors relative to sexual acting out. Harmful sexual behaviors are a product of the youth’s issues in the areas of unhealthy sexual interests or attitudes, problematic psychosocial functioning, unhealthy family/caregiver dynamics, and brain-based related issues. Mille Lacs Academy programming is designed to identify the needs specific to an individual youth and to address his issues in a holistic manner, in order to reduce the risk of continued harmful behaviors and increase his ability to form healthy sustaining relationships.

Treatment addresses inappropriate sexual behaviors, sexually reactive behaviors, and sexual perpetration, and focuses on family relationships, patterns of abusive behavior, development of empathy, cognitive distortions, attachment issues, personal victimization issues, and trauma-based mental health issues. Therapeutic services are offered after assessing the psychological, relational, familial, and emotional needs of each youth. Individualized programming is developed and implemented to treat each youth’s specific needs. Relationships are the foundation of treatment success at MLA. Our sex-specific treatment programs are built on relationships and our Cornerstone Values of Honesty, Responsibility, Courage, Care and Concern. We combine treatment with multi-contextual education and therapy, allowing us to develop a Relapse Prevention Plan for each youth, designed to help him achieve a lasting decrease in deviant, impulsive, or harmful sexual behaviors.
