On-Site School
On-site, year-round educational services are provided for all residents of Onarga Academy.
Faculty
Classes at Onarga Academy are taught by Illinois licensed teachers and special education teachers who have training in behavior management, creating a therapeutic culture that promotes intellectual development, builds relationship skills, and encourages emotional growth in students.
Licensing
The private school at Onarga Academy is licensed by the State of Illinois and is a fully accredited year-round junior high/high school. Classroom instruction is structured to help students transition back to their community schools after treatment.
Curriculum
Our highly structured, 12-month schedule allows students to enter school during any month of the year. Classes are offered in general education for both primary and secondary levels, and include English, literature, math, science, social studies, social skills, computer, health, and physical education. Students also receive instruction in study skills, drug and alcohol prevention, and sexuality, as appropriate for age and grade, as well as electives in fine arts (art and music) and industrial arts (woodworking and carpentry). Lunch is provided as part of the school day.
Classroom Size
The on-site school at Onarga Academy maintains small classroom sizes to optimize teacher-to-student ratios.
Community Involvement
At Nexus, we believe that education is more than just academics, so we provide students with work and social opportunities, field trips, and community involvement activities during their treatment stay at Onarga Academy.
